The Run-Down {and a GiVEaWay!}

We are less than 10 days away from the TeNTH annual Barn Sale!

This little ditty is making its way to 85 papers in the south Texas area--we hope it makes its way to you! When it does, clip the ad, write your name and phone number on it, and drop it in the bucket inside the Rusted Gingham booth at the Barn Sale. We'll draw one winner Friday and one winner Saturday for a half-dozen decorated sugar cookies. (We'll ship them after the Barn Sale.)

Looking for another treat possibility? Friday evening, head out to the orange truck, snap some photos with our fun signs, post on social media, and show us (in the Rusted Gingham booth) your post. We'll have a little goodie for you--while supplies last!

Gearing up to make the trek to the Barn Sale? Here are a few things you should know!

  • Plan your full Gonzales visit here. We're a quick trip (about an hour) from San Antonio, Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, and the like, but it's worth sticking around to eat, shop, explore our historical sites, and enjoy local lodging--some in beautiful historic homes around town.
  • Please have exact change--three crisp (or wrinkly) one dollar bills will do the trick! A stack of your favorite 12 quarters. A mix of the change you found in your car. Whatever you've got, count it right on out to $3 per adult (13 yrs and up) before coming to the gate, please.
  • Barn is covered but open to breeze (hoping for some cool fall weather); grab your favorite scarf or wrap if you're prone to the chilly side!
  • Each vendor is their own store--have cash, checks, and possibly credit card available (not all vendors accept cards)
  • Ain't No Grave is back to fill the Barn with tunes! This God-loving family appreciates tips- love on them!

  • Porters will be available to help carry large furniture to vehicles for tips. You are also more than welcome to bring in your carts to load up with GoOds!
  • Strollers welcome--and cute kids get in FREE!(12 and under)
  • We know your furry friends are part of the family, but please no dogs in the Barn, unless they are service animals.
  • Come with smiles ready to shop, mingle and be wowed!!!!
November 3rd, 4:00-9:00pm
November 4th, 9:00am-4:00pm

See you S-O-O-N!!!!!

Paint your own Project Piece!

Hey Y'all!!  I'm so Excited to Announce this----
Main Street Marketplace in downtown Gonzales has Expanded!  The head honcho of the cool little Vintage/Antique/Handmade shop where we have our paint and some of our vintage GoOds has acquired the building next door, knocked out part of the wall and doubled the size for your shopping pleasure!

In addition..... there is a dedicated craft/painting room in the back!  Yeppers- you heard it!

ZAC's room we just might call it!
This room is still getting some attention... so forgive the bit of extras in the pictures! But just know that the brick wall may very well stay that way!

SO, mark your calendars-
The last Saturday of this month- April 29th we will be hosting a First Ever- Paint your own Project Piece!  Yes, Yes- that cute little side table you bought for $10 at a yard sale 2 years ago that you haven't done anything with yet, or that gorgeous frame that 'needs some love' or the 2 chairs you salvaged from the neighbors trash pile at the end of their driveway.... You know, all the little pieces you've wanted to paint but haven't made time to- or are too scared to try.  Well- Now is your time!

Call to book your spot- 830-519-4023, and to let us know what type of piece you will be bringing to paint!  You can also head to Main Street Marketplace sometime in the next few days to find that just special piece if you don't have something in mind already!

Super easy to find this great building in Downtown Gonzales!  A cool thing about the day is the class will be from 10a- Noon!  So when you are finished with your little project piece you and your friends that come with you can walk to one of 6 restaurants all just a block away in different directions in downtown!

Barn Sale 101

Hey y'all--- people keep telling me how many days it is till Barn Sale.... My, November is getting here faster every year!  We are fine tuning all the little details that we can to make the Barn Sale a memorable one for you!  The vendors are FABULOUS... so that in itself is the reason to come!

Well, I thought I would do a quick 'low down' on the Barn Sale - kind of a 101 class....

Some have asked- 'Where is Gonzales?' -- We clear this up on our blog.  Gonzales is NOT in the Valley!  We are an Easy Peasy hour drive from San Antonio, Austin, Victoria, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Pleasanton and anything else in that radius!  Gonzales is about 13 miles south of I-10 off Hwy 183. So we are really central to just about half of Texas!!!

$3 at the Door- Really, that's it- $3 one dollar bills  - or 12 quarters - or 2 one dollar bills and 4 quarters.... you get the drift!  And yes- We prefer $1 bills... hint hint, wink wink, in admission lingo- 'Please have correct change'
All of these ladies had their cash ready last year on Friday afternoon!

Can We bring carts in- Absolutely!  The Barn is very easy to shop- but when you spy something you want.... Well, it's best to buy it at that point, because it might not be there when you come back for loop #2.  So, carts can be very handy and helpful from that standpoint!

Parking-- It's Free!  There is a large field to the left of the Barn when you pull in- you may park in rows there or keep driving past the Showbarn around to the Expo where there is a paved lot as well.

Is it really in a BARN?  --- Yep, a Big, Huge Showbarn!  Don't worry- there aren't any animals to worry about, or poop to step in... so wear your fancy boots!

Do we need to spend the night?--- Well, Yes!  Whether you shop Friday night or Saturday... Friday night shoppers can enjoy the Barn Sale till the V-E-R-Y end... then head downtown for some fabulous restaurant and bar selections... sleep in a comfy downtown renovated historic setting and wake up to some yummy breakfast options.  Then head back to the Barn Saturday morning to see if you missed anything!  After that take in all the stores downtown Saturday-- some super fabulous shops await you! Saturday shoppers- come in and stay Friday night so you can wake up refreshed, eat a good breakfast in town and be at the Barn before it opens with your $3 to get your band and be ready to shop!  Then when you've finished at the Barn head downtown for more great shopping- Do the St. Joseph Street stroll...... (we've listed lodging, shopping and eateries on the Gonzales Info link of blog)

Food????  YES-- There are some amazing Food selections at the Barn!  The tamales and Chili are talked about ALL year long, Royers Pie Haven- Sweet and Savory, 4-H kiddos with Chicken Salad & Pimento Cheese sandwiches along with cupcakes, cookies, bars, snack mixes, spicy crackers, decorated sugar cookies....Kolaches may make an appearance and possibly some cinnamon rolls... Oh, and some Sweet Tea, Cocoa Coolers, Water or other assorted drinks to wash it all down with! There are also tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the food and the view!

Live Music-- YES!!!  Ain't no Grave is Back again!  Save some money to tip this God Loving family!

Cash/Credit Card/Checks- YES!!!  Most vendors will prefer Cash.... Most accept checks and several will have a Card Reader (but Not all.)  So come prepared!  There is NOT an ATM machine at JB Wells park- you will have to go across the road to Circle G if you need that... or any bank in Gonzales!

What else is there to do in Gonzales?  Well, besides the above mentioned downtown shopping, Gonzales is FULL of History! Our Old Jail is a huge attraction as is our Memorial Museum- let's just say it is a hidden gem.  The phrase 'Come and Take It' was coined right here in Gonzales... so if you are up on Texas History- you will like our town!  Our Visitor Center is located inside the Historical Old Jail! There are over 80 Historically Recognized buildings (including our Fabulous driving tour of Historic homes) here in Gonzales.  So, if you like architecture.... you will enjoy the Historic buildings and homes Gonzales has to offer.  Fall in love with the town???  I know several real estate agents that would love to visit with you!

http://www.texashighways.com/images/72_Cannon.jpg That's The Day Tripper whom we had the pleasure of meeting a few months back!

Buying big furniture???  There are boys available for tips to help carry to your car!

Is it Kid Friendly??  Why- we happen to think so!!!

Well, Rain or Shine- The Barn has a roof and we've got the vendors... So make your Way to Gonzales this Friday from 4-8 or Saturday from 9-4.  It's a Fun time!  You will see things you like, things that make you smile, and maybe a few things you cannot live without.  You will be able to eat- or take food home with you and You will be able to hear amazing music.  So, there you have it- It's the place to be this weekend.... That wraps up Barn Sale 101.  Hope to meet you Friday or Saturday!!!

Counting down the days.....

Hey y'all- It's a Paint Party!

For us school is 1 week away- 1, uno, un, and I'm trying to get my mindset prepared as well as the schoolroom!  Yikes- how does summer always go so fast???? ( And yes-  I Know some of you have started back already! )

So in preparation of school starting and thinking that Moms, friends, teachers could have one last 'hurrah' before the constant daily schedule begins.......

Rusted Gingham is hosting a Mason Jar Painting Class at our fabulous local craft store called Craft Crossing

Pam at Craft Crossing has brought a mini Hobby Lobby to our town- and she is closed on Sunday too! ;-) If there is a craft product that we need in 'little ole Gonzales' Pam typically has it!! She has fabric of all sorts and often hosts sewing/quilting classes too! She has a better selection of scrapbook paper than any other store I've been in, has stamps out the wazoo, a huge selection of die cuts, ink, glues/tapes, baking supplies, general craft supplies and a whole room of fabric and sewing notions- Gonzales is Fortunate that she chose to open her store here!!!

We have 14 spots available for this cute Mason Jar painting class using our Junk Gypsy Paints!  The fun part will be sharing the time with friends!  So, call a few and call Craft Crossing at 830-203-5303 to book your space for this Saturday August 20th at 6:30pm!!!

The jar length is 19" and 11" wide. Cost for the class is $30.

This would make a great teacher gift, Christmas gift- or your own gift!  (You can customize the saying if you like.... or use an initial for a door/classroom!)

Hope to see you Saturday!!!

18 Colors of Paint

Does that sound like too many colors to choose from?  18- Road Tested Colors as my friends the Junk Gypsies like to call them!

In case you haven't heard, Rusted Gingham is a retailer for the Junk Gypsy Chalk and Clay paint!  We have every color at our booth at Main Street Marketplace  in downtown Gonzales, Texas!

We still have a booth upstairs with our Junky, REmadE, HandMadE GoOds--- but we were fortunate to get a Primo, Perfect, Slim little spot for the Junk Gypsy Paints after we took down our window display.....  This was what it looked like when we first saw it----

Then we took out the cabinet that was screwed to the wall- and the shelves... and we were left with this peach of a color.... So we asked our Insta and FAcebook followers to shout out some ideas- and they did!  Donna Koehler was the winner of an 8oz jar of paint- her choice for playing along with us!  In the end we chose- Happy Camper!  What a great subtle color to use as the back drop for all 18 colors!!   My youngest had to get in on the painting....

In between paint projects I took some time to bake some goods and create a space at our local Farmers Market!  What a great morning- I think next spring I would like to make a habit of this....
Toasted Pecan Banana Bread and Onion Zucchini bread were quick sellers- oh and some sugar cookies- which kind of disappeared rather quickly..... Grandma's tomato, cucumber, onion 'salad' was  a treat for many who said their Grandma used to make it!

This bread is Delish- but doesn't use up near enough zucchini....

And toasting the pecans makes a world of a difference when it comes to baking- especially in this banana bread!
The shoppers were all so sweet- and excited to have things locally grown and hand made!
I made some bouquets from everything that was flowering in our yard, fresh picked tomatoes, eggs from the younger's chickens, earrings from the older, potted Aloe Vera and even some ground beef from Cattleman- so I was representing the entire family!!!

For those of you that know me- you know I can't do just a table and my GoOds.... it had to look pretty and good enough to eat- and I will say that it did!

This little piece here has sat in the house for a few years- yes all scratched up!  I loved the barn reddish color of it- but since I'm in this 'brightening' things up mode.... I decided it was time to give it a little sprucing up. Mind you- I have to leave some of it scratched up.

In comes the Junk Gypsy Wanderlust for outside and insides, topped off with Buttermilk biscuit!  I left the shelves their natural color- they are going to be filled with family photo albums/scrapbooks....
In case you are getting geared up to pain and want a good sampling of all the colors we have to choose from....
 Buttermilk Biscuit, Gypsy Prom, Dreamcatcher
Dirtroad Dreamer, Happy Camper, Wild Oats

Hippie Highway, Free Range, Wild Blue Yonder
Landlocked Mermaid, Faded Jeans, Free Spirit
 Wanderlust, American Dream, Rebel Child
Flower Child, Granny's Cornbread, Singin' the Texas Blues

And what about that booth space that we painted.. well take a look here and see ---- click below
our booth at Main Street Marketplace

Happy Painting!!!
