Handmade Valentines are the only way to go

Every year we design handmade Valentines. That’s just what we do. Last year, my girls were the only ones in their classes that did not hand out store bought cards. I was surprised! I thought lots more families still did handmade Valentines.

Handmade Valentines

I still remember my school days and how much fun it was to exchange Valentines. We got to decorate a paper sack, and then it was super hard to print ALL those classmate's names on their little envelopes! But nothing beat the absolute joy of walking down the windowed wall and dropping my little valentines in each person’s sack.

When my teacher said it was time, one by one I carefully opened my cards and read every word. Sometimes I needed help. Sometimes there was candy. Sometimes just a scribbled name from a boy that made me giggle and blush.

My girls are having that same awesome experience each year. We decorate boxes instead of bags and the best part is deciding how big the slit should be for the cards to fit.

Last year we made scratch-off cards with sweet notes underneath a silver scratch-off heart. The kids went crazy over them – some were just thrilled it came with a penny!

Both girls came home with their hearts full. Not because they got stuff.

Because they knew their friends really liked and appreciated what they gave.

It wasn’t about the cards – it was about the LOVE that made them.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. 1 John 4:7

What kind of love are you giving this Valentines?
